BS in Biotechnology, Utah Valley University.

Interests: When in the lab I grow human neurons, study their properties by doing a lot of Western Blots and qRT-PCR, and organizing things around the lab. When out of the lab I enjoy hiking, watching tv shows, reading, camping, swimming, tennis, and sharing "Brother Jake Explains" Youtube videos.

BS in Molecular and Cellular Biology, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Interests: I am currently characterizing the properties of cortical organoids derived from iPSCs and exploring their utility as an in vitro system for disease modeling. When I'm not in the lab, I enjoy hiking, reading books, jamming on my guitar, eating incredible amounts of sugar and Thai curry, and drinking beers over 4% abv.

BS in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Christopher Newport University

Interests: I am a graduate student in the University of Utah Molecular Biology PhD program. I moved to Salt Lake City to begin my graduate career from Newport News, Virginia. I am interested in studying the neurobiological bases of psychiatric disorders. When I’m not making scientific breakthroughs in the lab I’m busy making music or shredding the gnar.

Laura Bell
Graduate student in Neuroscience Program
E-mail: laura.bell@utah.edu

BS in Biology, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs

Interests: As an undergraduate, I conducted research with Dr. Eugenia Olesnicky studying genetics and alternative splicing in neuron development. I also spent a summer in Dr. Wendy Macklin’s lab at UC Denver studying myelin development in zebrafish with support from an NIH Endure fellowship. I joined the Shcheglovitov lab in April 2017 to begin my graduate research in brain development and neurological disorders using iPSC and organoid technology. When I’m not in the lab, I enjoy being in the mountains, skiing, biking, and hiking with my dog.
